DRG Facility Inpatient Coder (Remote) JOB DESCRIPTION As a Facility Inpatient Coder, you will be assisting HMI with medical coding for our clients. This is a fully remote position with a flexible schedule. Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Must complete Coding Assessment to be considered for position. Responsibilities include: β€’ Reviews medical records to identify diagnoses, CPT procedures and PCS procedures relative to the patient’s encounter. β€’ Selects the principal diagnosis and principal procedure, along with other diagnoses and procedures using UHDDS definition. Ensures appropriate DRG assignment. β€’ Abstracts appropriate information from the medical record based on the guidelines provided by the client and after a thorough review of the medical record. β€’ Solicits clarification from the physician regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation in the medical record using guidelines provided by the client. β€’ Ensure all coding complies with the ethical coding standards/guidelines and regulatory requirements. β€’ Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines/regulations. EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS β€’ Must have one of the following AHIMA certifications: CCS, RHIA, RHIT β€’ Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and coding guidelines for ICD-10, PCS, CPT, Modifiers, etc. β€’ At least 2 years of active coding experience in: β€’ Facility Inpatient Coding for at least Level I Trauma Center β€’ Compliant Query practices β€’ Knowledge of current and developing issues, trends in medical coding procedures requirements, and be able to research as needed. β€’ Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and billing procedures, and documentation including CMS guidelines. β€’ Proficient computer skills using MS-Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Edge, Chrome, electronic medical records (EMR) systems including Epic, Meditech and Cerner. β€’ Meet required client productivity standards and maintain minimum of 95% accuracy. β€’ Must reside and be legal to work in the U.S. DESIRED QUALITIES β€’ Self-sufficient with strong analytical and research skills β€’ Responsible and responsive β€’ Strong attention to detail β€’ Excellent written and oral communication skills. β€’ Ability to meet deadlines.
