Description of Work The Collections Curator is responsible for management and care of the collection for the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex. This position oversees proper storage, documentation, and receipt of objects for the museumâs collection. This position reports to the Business Officer. This position also serves as a member of the exhibition team. This position submits yearly budgets for collections care and has knowledgeable of museum standards and best practices. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ⢠Applying museum methods regarding collections care and conservation. ⢠Conducting research into historical objects. ⢠Object processing includes cataloguing and condition reporting. ⢠Maintaining collectionsâ software files. ⢠Monitoring collections and museum for humidity and pests. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $35,596.00 - $48,238.00 To receive credit for your work history and credentials, you must provide the information on the application form. Position/Physical Requirements Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Ability to lift, push, pull, crouch, bend, and other forms of movement for the position. Must have a valid driverâs license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. Bachelorâs degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution AND two years of museum or related work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Section/Unit Description The Museum of the Cape Fear is a regional museum under the Division of State History Museums. The museum serves a portion of the state. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret cultural history of southern North Carolina and the state for the education and enjoyment of the present and future generations. Through educational program and exhibits, the museum raises awareness of the past and its influence on the present. Division Description The North Carolina Museum of History Division promotes the understanding of the history and material culture of North Carolina for the educational benefit of North Carolinians. Through collections and historical Interpretation, its museums encourage citizens and visitors to explore and understand the past; to reflect on their lives and their place in history; and to preserve state, regional, and local history for future generations.
