Job Description
American Express is a leading financial services company with a long history of innovation. They are seeking an Investment Analyst for their Amex Ventures team to help develop investment theses, source and execute investments, and drive strategic partnerships within the enterprise software domain.
Responsibilities
- Engage across the full lifecycle of venture investing, including sourcing, evaluating, transacting, and managing investments
- Conduct market and industry analysis to support investment thesis development around strategic focus areas
- Build strong relationships with the venture capital and startup ecosystem to proactively identify and qualify relevant companies
- Evaluate business cases and assess investment opportunities from a strategic, operational and financial perspective
- Support due diligence and investment decision-making process including preparation of investment memos, financial modeling and analysis, and management of deal execution workstreams
- Monitor portfolio company performance on an ongoing basis, working with internal and external stakeholders to drive strategic partnership value
Skills
- 1-3 years previous professional experience in a finance, strategy, or tech role; examples may include VC or PE investing, investment banking, management consulting, or a high-impact role at a technology company (product management, business operations, strategic finance, etc.)
- Ability to operate autonomously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Well-developed strategic thinking capabilities to identify and assess opportunities, risks, and recommendations on a first-principles basis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of driving effective collaboration across internal and external stakeholders
- Analytical mindset and deep understanding of finance and valuation fundamentals
- Strong interest in enterprise software and motivation to engage with the startup ecosystem
- Bachelor's degree required
