Transamerica is a financial services company dedicated to helping people achieve financial freedom. The Paralegal role involves assisting with research activities, executing legal transactions, and preparing and processing legal documents.


Responsibilities

  • Carries out legal assignments of routine nature. Work is reviewed and evaluated by others
  • Investigates facts and routine matters in the law
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor after researching fairly standard legal issues
  • Creates and implements paper and electronic document collection, review and production systems and tracking documents with minimal supervision
  • Understands e-discovery and computer forensics concepts such as litigation holds, preservation of data and chain of custody
  • Creates and implements case file and organizational systems for electronic case files
  • Compiles, reviews, and analyzes documents as required by attorneys specific to case issues and determines necessary information
  • Communicates, corresponds, and interacts with clients and outside entities, such as, government entities, expert witnesses, vendors, corporations, and other law firms to gather information or data
  • Serves as factual resource on cases and demonstrates knowledge of case documents
  • Assists with department projects as needed and performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Lead Manager
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Understands ethics of position including ethical rules in regard to confidentiality, and client representation and advocacy
  • Collaborates effectively and professionally with clients and all levels of personnel, including attorneys, colleagues, and administrators
  • Willingness to support matters at any level required as a supporting member of the paralegal team
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate to attorneys and staff
  • Must be an initiative-taking, self-starter who understands the details within a much larger context
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as a being a team player, in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-office environment and with a virtual team
  • Must take ownership of deliverables and be accountable

Skills

  • 0-2 years of paralegal experience
  • 2 years formal legal training or equivalent
  • Capable of communicating effectively with co-workers and those in other departments
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to resources available
  • Must deliver high quality work product and have the ability to follow up and follow through
