Position: Cultural Liaison



Location: Friendly Hills Middle School



Reports To: Equity Coordinator and Building Principal



Schedule: 8 hours per day, Student Contract days



Pay Rate: $30.00 Position Summary:



Cultural liaisons understand the value of and are committed to effective partnerships between schools, families and communities. They serve as advocates to our Spanish speaking families and students and build trusting relationships that ensure equitable access to school and district services. Cultural Liaisons work in collaboration with a variety of school and district staff members to support and empower students in reaching their social and academic goals.

Required Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree



Proficiency in English and Spanish



Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, families and colleagues



Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including excellent customer service skills with parents, students, staff, administration, and the community



Demonstrated ability to effectively use district technology



Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-culturally



Ability to motivate and inspire students; takes a student-centered approach



Committed to educational equity



Preferred Qualifications:



Prior experience working in K-12 educational environment



Prior experience as a Cultural Liaison



Demonstrated ability to show initiative and function as a self-starter



Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information



Experience working with students and families



Experience in restorative practices circle keeping



Essential functions of the position may include but are not limited to the following:



Work collaboratively with other cultural liaisons in the district and attend team meetings



Partner with school staff in communicating information regarding attendance, grades, athletics, etc.



Work in coordination with counselors, mental health and other support staff and/or administration to meet students/families needs



Assist school and district staff in deepening their understanding of and responsiveness to Spanish speaking cultures represented in District 197 schools



Assist in supporting student academic success and goals



Partner with teaching staff to help build family connections



Assist in developing and implementing support and outreach strategies for families



Lead Parent Academy seminars/courses



Lead and develop student groups to empower student voice



Other duties as assigned
