About the position
The CDOC Medical Records Tech II - Scheduler position is a full-time role responsible for providing specialized medical scheduling and arranging transportation for medical care for offenders within the Department of Corrections. This position involves coordinating on-site and off-site medical appointments, ensuring compliance with security regulations, and serving as a liaison between various healthcare providers and the correctional facility. The role supports the Medical Scheduling Unit by performing administrative duties and safeguarding the privacy of inmate medical information.
- Responsibilities
- Provide specialized medical scheduling for offenders within the Department of Corrections. ,
- Arrange transportation for medical care, including inpatient hospitalizations and security arrangements. ,
- Evaluate referrals for medical services and determine appropriate scheduling solutions. ,
- Review individual offender medical data to schedule appointments at on-site and off-site facilities. ,
- Serve as a liaison to guide healthcare providers to ensure offenders receive appropriate medical treatment. ,
- Prepare and provide reports documenting scheduling problems and solutions. ,
- Provide technical assistance regarding the scheduling process and electronic medical scheduling program.
- Requirements
- Two years of full-time experience in a healthcare setting and maintenance of protected health information in the medical record. ,
- Education/certification in medical records, health information, medical assistant, or medical billing and coding can substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis. ,
- Excellent interpersonal, multi-tasking, and administrative skills. ,
- Ability to read and comprehend the English language and communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. ,
- Proficient in HIPAA compliance and Microsoft Word and Excel. ,
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and experience with electronic health records and scheduling applications.
- Nice-to-haves
- Experience as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Health Information Technician. ,
- Experience with scheduling medical appointments with multiple agencies and providers via electronic medical record. ,
- Experience working in a correctional environment.
