Job Description

MatX is on a mission to enhance AI model efficiency and is developing full-stack solutions for large ML workloads. They are seeking an AI Tooling Engineer to work on RL environments, model performance evaluation, and hardware/software optimization challenges.

Responsibilities

RL environments to teach frontier LLMs how to design hardware and write kernels
Evals to measure model performance across frontier vendors for MatX tasks
Difficult hardware / software optimization puzzles that challenge even the latest frontier models
Build tools for making these puzzles easier for both LLMs and humans

Skills

0 - 2 years experience with systems programming using Rust / Python / HDLs
Linux / Docker experience is a must
Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or a related field
Non-coursework projects preferred; in HDL, RTL experience preferred
Experience optimizing hardware for area / timing / power
ML experience, especially with LLMs
Experience with CLI coding agents: incl. Codex / Claude Code / Gemini CLI
