Performs intermediate technical work in the inspection and plan review of commercial and residential building construction for compliance with the Florida Building Code, Florida Statutes, Floodplain Regulations, and local ordinances. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Building Official<ul><li>Performs building and trade inspections and plan review of varying complexity to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations; schedules inspection requests; records inspection results; confers with and interprets code requirements for contractors, engineers, architects, and residents</li><li>Assists code enforcement personnel in the investigation of potential violations, including but not limited to erosion control, work without a permit and unlicensed contractor activity.</li><li>Inspects unsafe buildings in concert with the Fire Marshal and Code Enforcement Officer and issues notices to abate these unsafe conditions.</li><li>Appears and offers testimony at code enforcement/special master hearings and in court, when necessary.</li><li>Meets with violators of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations to assist in the resolution of issues and to achieve compliance.</li><li>Performs stormwater erosion and sedimentation control inspections.</li><li>Assists at permit counter issuing permits.</li><li>Performs related tasks as required.</li></ul><ul><li> High School Diploma or GED equivalency.</li><li>Valid Florida driver license with an acceptable driving record</li><li>Ability to obtain within one year and maintain a State of Florida Standard Inspector and Plans Examiner License in one (1) of the following disciplines: Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, 1-2 Family; or meet the requirements of Florida Statutes Chapter 468 to obtain and maintain OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. and </li><li>Ability to obtain State of Florida Stormwater Inspector Certification within one year of employment.</li></ul> Special Requirements <br />Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: <br />Thorough knowledge of all types of building construction materials and methods, and stages of construction when violations and defects may be most easily observed and corrected; thorough knowledge of state building and related codes and laws and ordinances; ability to read and interpret plans and specifications accurately and to compare them with construction in progress; ability to work well with property owners, contractors, and design professionals; firmness and tact in enforcing building codes; ability to work effectively with colleagues.<br /><br /> Physical Requirements: <br />This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for<br />depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
