Cyber Security Consultant

Position Overview
The Cyber Security Consultant supports Broward County s Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) division by strengthening the County s cybersecurity posture through risk assessment, security architecture consulting, compliance enforcement, and incident response coordination.
This role provides senior-level consulting expertise to protect enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, applications, and data against evolving cyber threats while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry frameworks.
The consultant collaborates with Security Operations, Infrastructure, Networking, and County agencies to implement secure technology solutions aligned with County IT strategy.
- Key ResponsibilitiesCybersecurity Strategy & Consulting
- Provide cybersecurity consulting services across County enterprise systems and technology initiatives.
- Assess current security posture and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Support development and enforcement of cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures.
- Advise leadership on emerging threats and security best practices.
- Risk Management & Compliance
- Conduct enterprise risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, and security audits.
- Ensure compliance with frameworks such as:
- NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- CIS Controls
- CJIS, HIPAA, PCI (as applicable)
- Assist with security governance and regulatory reporting.
- (Broward cybersecurity roles emphasize risk assessments, policy development, and compliance oversight responsibilities.)Security Operations & Incident Response
- Support detection, investigation, and response to cybersecurity incidents.
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with SOC teams to monitor threats and security events.
- Assist forensic investigations and evidence collection when required.
- (Senior security roles within Broward County include monitoring threats, incident response, and vulnerability mitigation activities.)Technology & Security Implementation
- Evaluate and implement enterprise security technologies such as:
- SIEM
- EDR/XDR
- IDS/IPS
- Firewalls and Identity Security solutions
- Review architecture designs to ensure secure deployment standards.
- Support upgrades and deployment of cybersecurity tools across County environments.
- (County IT roles require expertise deploying and managing enterprise cybersecurity solutions and technologies.)Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as liaison between IT, Legal, Compliance, and business departments.
- Provide technical guidance during technology projects and migrations.
- Deliver security awareness recommendations and training guidance.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 8 12 years of progressive cybersecurity or information security experience.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Enterprise network security
- Cloud security principles
- Threat detection & vulnerability management
- Secure system architecture
- Experience working in large enterprise or government environments preferred.
- Required Certifications (One or More)
- CISSP Certified Information Systems Security Professional
- CISM Certified Information Security Manager
- CISA Certified Information Systems Auditor
(Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP/CISM/CISA are commonly required or preferred for Broward County security and audit roles.)
- Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of MITRE Telecommunication&CK framework and cyber attack methodologies.
- Experience with SIEM analytics and threat hunting.
- Security architecture review experience.
- Vendor security assessment and third-party risk management.
- Government or public-sector cybersecurity experience.
