Job Description

About the position

Provide educational planning and academic advising to students using VA and Hazlewood educational benefits.
Certify students for appropriate federal and state educational benefits.
Assist students in choosing a career pathway through career advising.
Plan, implement, and conduct retention and completion activities for students receiving veteran benefits.
Collaborate with the Coordinator/Manager of Veteran Services to evaluate programs and services provided by Veteran Services.
Assist with the graduation application process and commencement activities.
Work cooperatively with counterparts on campus and at other campuses to achieve the College's annual goals and objectives.
Represent San Jacinto College with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations.
Serve as a department liaison and participate in campus/college committees as requested.

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Personal computer literacy and good organizational skills.
Working knowledge of Veterans Administration education benefits policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Texas Hazlewood education benefits and their relation to college policies.
Ability to facilitate timely, professional communication and problem resolution strategies.
Knowledge of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and related college policies and procedures.
Understanding of FERPA law and regulations.
Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines.

Experience or training in education, teaching, academic advising, recruiting, sales, customer service, marketing, or public relations, preferably at the community college level.
Certification of VA and/or Hazlewood education benefits.
Knowledge and experience with Banner Student system or other student database software systems.
