Job Description
Tetra Tech is a leader in water, environment, and sustainable infrastructure, providing high-end consulting and engineering services for projects worldwide. They are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to assist in the planning and design of mechanical systems for water resources and navigation projects, contributing to high-visibility projects while gaining hands-on experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and design of mechanical systems and components for water resources and navigation projects (e.g., locks and dams), hydraulic structures (e.g., gates, valves, hoists, cranes, hydropower plants, pump stations), and mechanical systems for ports and harbors
- Prepare engineering reports, technical specifications, plans, and construction schedules to support project development and delivery
- Perform mechanical engineering design calculations
- Translate engineering designs into detailed working drawings or coordinate with technical staff to produce construction-ready drawings
- Review and check drawings and design deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards and project requirements
- Support the development of probable construction cost estimates and assist in cost-related project documentation
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant mechanical engineering experience
- An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate
- Experience with design software such as MicroStation, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys, and Inventor
- Proven analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through education and professional experience
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and make independent decisions that advance company goals and project objectives
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, in person and virtually
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Project)
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or working towards obtaining licensure
- Experience with conceptual and detailed mechanical design for water resources and navigation structures
- Prior experience supporting projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or other federal, state, or local government agencies
- Construction support experience
