Job Description

The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. They are seeking a Program Coordinator I to determine applicants' eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits and ensure that all pertinent information is documented in the case file while applying relevant laws for formal eligibility determinations.


Responsibilities

  • Determine an applicant’s eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits based on the reason the individual separated from their last employer
  • Review and evaluate claim information and, if needed, investigate conflicting information provided by applicants and employers
  • Ensure that all pertinent information used to evaluate the claim is documented in the case file and apply applicable law to issue formal eligibility determinations at the end to the review
  • Gather and review claim information and use North Carolina’s Employment Security Law to make eligibility determinations regarding an individual’s separation from employment
  • Make first-level decisions regarding an individual’s continued eligibility for benefits based on weekly filing requirements

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in eligibility determination, evaluating claims, and case management
  • Strong communication and customer service skills in order to obtain relevant and accurate information from all interested parties in a timely manner
  • The ability to analyze facts, evaluate conflicting information, and correctly apply relevant law to those facts in a production-oriented environment
