Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. VetsEZ is seeking a Ruby on Rails API Developer for a 100% remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The selected candidate will design, develop, and maintain high-performance RESTful APIs while collaborating with various teams to ensure the APIs meet business objectives and client requirements. Responsibilities β’ Design, develop, and maintain high-quality RESTful APIs using Ruby on Rails. β’ Collaborate with product managers, front-end developers, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical specifications. β’ Ensure API scalability, reliability, and performance by applying best practices and modern engineering standards. β’ Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code aligned with established coding guidelines. β’ Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to support team quality and consistency. β’ Implement and maintain automated testing procedures to ensure code quality and stability. β’ Troubleshoot and debug issues promptly, providing effective and timely resolutions. β’ Optimize existing APIs and systems to improve performance and scalability. β’ Produce high-quality technical documentation, including API guides, usage instructions, and test reports. β’ Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Ruby on Rails and API development. β’ Participate in project planning, estimation, sprint activities, and timeline management. β’ Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed. Skills β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. β’ 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Ruby on Rails developer with a focus on API development. β’ Strong understanding of Ruby, the Rails framework, and RESTful API design principles. β’ Experience building and consuming APIs using REST, GraphQL, or OpenAPI specifications. β’ Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. β’ Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and Bootstrap. β’ Experience working with Linux environments and cloud platforms such as AWS, EC2, or Azure. β’ Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. β’ Excellent communication and collaboration skills. β’ Experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments. β’ Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git. β’ Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes. β’ Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems. β’ Knowledge of secure coding principles and security best practices. β’ Experience with TDD or BDD development methodologies. β’ Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD tools related to API development. β’ Experience collaborating with VA stakeholders to deliver technology solutions. β’ Demonstrated experience supporting Ruby on Rails systems within a federal agency environment. β’ Knowledge of VA operations, policies, and programs.
