The Senior Consultant, Data Governance plays a key role in embedding governance and stewardship into clients' daily work, executing governance activities, and facilitating alignment between business and technical teams. Responsibilities β€’ Facilitate data governance working groups to drive alignment between business and technology stakeholders β€’ Execute metadata management activities such as cataloging, lineage capture, and stewardship workflows β€’ Partner with business teams to draft and maintain business rules, definitions, and data quality controls β€’ Apply data quality processes such as profiling, monitoring, and issue management, ensuring rules are practical and adopted β€’ Support the installation, configuration, rollout and adoption of governance/metadata tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Purview) β€’ Coach client staff on data stewardship practicesβ€”showing them how to govern their data effectively and sustainably β€’ Communicate governance concepts in clear business language; prepare presentations, training materials, and adoption guides β€’ Provide input on access controls, privacy, and compliance with regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) β€’ Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business owners to embed governance into daily workflows, platform pipelines, modeling practices, and observability β€’ Install and configure metadata/catalog tools in client environments β€’ Build and curate catalogs, including ingestion of technical metadata, business glossaries, and lineage β€’ Define user personas and design role-appropriate experiences (data stewards, data owners, analysts, engineers) β€’ Tailor tool UX (workflows, dashboards, search optimization) to improve usability and adoption β€’ Configure governance workflows (e.g., DG asset approvals, stewardship assignments, issue tracking) β€’ Leverage and guide customers on AI-assisted features in modern tools (auto-classification, definition drafting, similarity matching, lineage discovery) to accelerate execution and adoption β€’ Partner with client IT teams to ensure tools are integrated into enterprise platforms and security models Skills β€’ 3–5 years of experience in data governance, metadata management, or related roles β€’ Hands-on experience with data catalog/metadata tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Atlan, Purview) β€’ Exposure to data quality tools and processes (Informatica, Talend, Ataccama, or equivalent) β€’ Strong communication skills: able to facilitate workshops, write clear business documentation, and present to mixed audiences β€’ Demonstrated ability to define and obtain alignment for definition, business rules and data quality controls β€’ Familiarity with governance operating models and stewardship practices β€’ Knowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and how governance practices support compliance β€’ Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience) β€’ Experience leading or supporting data governance working groups or stewardship councils β€’ Knowledge of data access provisioning, integration patterns, or lineage capture β€’ Experience building adoption materials, training guides, or playbooks for governance programs β€’ Prior client-facing consulting experience Benefits β€’ Remote-First Work Environment β€’ Casual, award-winning small-business work environment β€’ Collaborative culture that prizes autonomy, creativity, and transparency β€’ Competitive comp, excellent benefits, 4 weeks PTO plan plus 10 Holidays (and other cool perks) β€’ Accelerated learning and professional development through advanced training and certifications Company Overview β€’ phData Premier provider of Big Data managed services and architecture, engineering, and data science consulting.
