Position Overview
We are seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and safeguard our database platforms that supports the Onpoint Iris Agentic AI healthcare applications, AI-driven workflows, and clinical system integrations. This role is responsible for data modeling, database reliability, performance, backup and recovery, ETL data movement between systems, and ensuring data integrity across operational, reporting, and archival environments.

The DBA will work closely with engineering, data, and infrastructure teams to support production workloads, integrations with EHR systems, and internal analytics while maintaining compliance with healthcare security and availability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Operations

Administer, maintain, and support relational database platforms across development, staging, and production environments.

Manage database availability, reliability, and performance for mission‑critical applications.

Perform routine database maintenance activities including:

Index creation and optimization

Query performance tuning

Statistics management

Schema changes and deployments

Monitor database health, capacity, and usage trends; proactively address performance or scalability risks.

Backup, Recovery, and Storage

Design and maintain backup and retention strategies aligned with business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.

Perform and validate database restores and recovery procedures on a regular basis.

Manage database storage, capacity planning, and archival strategies (including warm and cold storage).

Coordinate backup storage integrations with cloud storage services.

ETL & Data Movement

Support and maintain ETL‑style data pipelines between:

Operational databases

Reporting/analytics environments

Data warehouses or backup storage systems

Develop and maintain data extraction, transformation, and loading processes using SQL, stored procedures, and data movement tools.

Ensure data consistency, integrity, and validation across source and target systems.

Support scheduled and near‑real‑time data movement for integrations and downstream consumers.

Data Modeling & Schema Design

Collaborate with application engineers and data teams on:

Logical and physical data models

Schema design and evolution

Referential integrity and normalization

Review and optimize database designs for performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Support incremental schema changes tied to application and integration requirements.

Manage and execute database schema changes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, leveraging Terraform and CI/CD pipelines to ensure version‑controlled, auditable, and repeatable deployments across environments.

Administer and support non‑relational and modern data systems including document databases (e.g., Azure Cosmos DB) and other cloud‑native data stores used by production applications and AI workloads.

Manage operational aspects of vector databasesand vector‑enabled data stores that support:

AI/ML workflows

Semantic search

Retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG)

Embedding storage and indexing

Support and maintain knowledge graph and graph‑based data systems, including:

Schema design and evolution

Data integrity and relationship management

Performance tuning and query optimization for graph‑style access patterns

Security, Compliance & Governance

Implement database security best practices including:

Role‑based access controls

Encryption at rest and in transit

Auditing and logging

Support compliance initiatives related to healthcare and security standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2).

Participate in security reviews, audits, and incident investigations related to data systems.

Collaboration & Support

Partner with application engineering, DevOps, and data teams to support releases and production operations.

Assist with database troubleshooting and incident response.

Contribute to documentation for database standards, operational procedures, and recovery processes.

Technology Environment (Representative)

Databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database (PaaS), SQL Managed Instance, Azure Cosmos DB

Cloud Platform: Microsoft Azure

Storage & Backup: Azure Blob Storage, Azure Backup, geo‑redundant storage

ETL / Data Movement:

T‑SQL, stored procedures

Scheduled jobs, pipelines, or integration services

Monitoring & Operations:

Azure Monitor

Alerting and performance diagnostics tools

Source Control / CI‑CD:

Azure DevOps or similar tooling

Integration Context:

Healthcare systems, APIs, and downstream reporting platforms

Required Qualifications

4+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar role.

Strong expertise in relational database administration and SQL.

Hands‑on experience with database backup, recovery, and performance tuning.

Experience supporting ETL or data movement processes between systems.

Solid understanding of data modeling, indexing strategies, and query optimization.

Experience operating databases in a cloud environment (Azure preferred).

Familiarity with security best-practices for data systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting healthcare or regulated environments.

Familiarity with SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar compliance frameworks.

Experience working with production SaaS applications.

Exposure to data warehousing or analytics environments.

Understanding of high‑availability and disaster recovery architectures.
