Job Description

Caltrans is dedicated to improving lives and communities through transportation. The Transportation Engineer (Civil) will perform a variety of professional engineering tasks on highway construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents and may act as an Assistant Structure Representative.


Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of professional engineering work in either an office or field setting
  • Ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans and Special Provisions)
  • May act as an Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer/Resident Engineer on construction projects

Skills

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid professional engineer's license in the State of California is highly desirable
  • Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically), or the Electronic State Employment Application through your Applicant Account at www.CalCareers.ca.gov
  • All Experience and Education relating to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification should be included to demonstrate how you meet the Minimum Qualifications for the position
  • Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. SOQ must be limited to 1 page and must provide detailed responses that incorporate the question
  • Q1. Why do you want to work for Structure Construction?
  • Q2. Provide examples of your ability to work with initiative and working as a team
  • Resume is optional. It may be included, but is not required
