Job Description

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Temporary Web Developer to support website development and digital accessibility initiatives. This position will assist with maintaining and improving university web properties built on WordPress, ensuring content meets institutional standards for usability and accessibility.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update university websites built in WordPress, including content updates, layout adjustments, and troubleshooting
  • Implement web design and development improvements to enhance usability, performance, and accessibility
  • Ensure websites follow digital accessibility best practices? (e.g., WCAG guidelines)
  • Conduct accessibility remediation for digital documents including PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations
  • Work with staff to identify and resolve accessibility or functionality issues
  • Assist with testing and quality assurance across browsers and devices
  • Document processes or updates as needed

Skills

  • High School or General Educational Development diploma and six months of experience
  • Equivalent coursework in computer operations or information technology from a technical school or community college may be substituted for the required experience
  • Journey level requires an additional six months of education or experience
  • Advanced level requires an additional one year of education or experience
  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility standards or best practices
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic web development principles
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining websites using content management systems such as WordPress or CSS
  • Experience working in higher education or with large organizational websites which rely on teamwork and timely communications
  • Experience with educational digital mediums such as Learning Management Systems (Canvas) or Office 365
